Joseph M. Yap finished his Master of Library and Information Science from the University of the Philippines-Diliman – School of Library and Information Studies on October 2010. He was given a master's thesis grant by the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians (PAARL) in 2010. He likewise finished his Bachelor of Library and Information Science from the same university with a distinction – Cum Laude in 2006. Recently, he completed a massive open online course called New Librarianship Master Class administered by the School of Information Studies, Syracuse University, New York, USA.

Awards

In July 2012, he was awarded the SLA Asian Early Career Award by the Special Libraries Association in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He placed 3rd during the 1st International Collegiate Information Literacy Contest in the School of Information Management, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China in July 2010. In addition, the UPLSAA presented the Young Achiever Award to Joseph Yap on May 2013.

Papers and Presentations

He presented one of his papers during the 15th Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL) in Bali, Indonesia in May 2012. He also became a resource person for the Southeast Asia Pacific Audio-Visual Archives Association (SEAPAVAA) conference in Manila in 2008 and the 4th Rizal Library International Conference sponsored by the Rizal Library, Ateneo de Manila University in 2010. He published several of his papers in the following journals: Document, Information & Knowledge (China), Cybermetrics (Spain), Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health (Thailand) and Journal of Malaria and Parasite Diseases Control (Vietnam). He has published an article in Bilgi Dünyası (Information World), a Turkish journal and also in Library Management which is accessible via Emerald. He was also one of the book chapter contributors for an IGI Global book entitled, "Collaboration in International & Comparative Librarianship."

Trainings and Professional Associations

He underwent several international trainings related to Library, Information Science and Archival Management. He participated in the 9th batch of STIMULATE (Scientific and Technological Information Management in Universities and Libraries: an Active Training Environment) in Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium (2009); 4th Regional Training Workshop on the Preservation of and Access to Documentary Heritage in the Asia and Pacific, Seoul, South Korea (2009); 1st iProfessional Leadership Development Summer Program, Wuhan, China (2010). He also participated in a library, museum and archives tour in Germany sponsored by Goethe Institut and BI International together with the 2012 ASLP Board. He is currently the Associate Librarian assigned at the Information-Reference, Libraries, DLSU-Manila campus. He was previously assigned at the Makati Extension Campus Library (the graduate business library of the Ramon V. del Rosario College of Business) of De La Salle University. Before joining De La Salle University, he was the Information Resource Officer of the Asian Collaborative Training Network for Malaria. Prior to becoming the president of the association, he became the Secretary and P.R.O. of the Medical and Health Librarians Association of the Philippines (MAHLAP). He is a member of the Special Libraries Association (SLA).
